Thadingyut Celebration: People Celebrate The End Of Buddhist Lent In Nay Pyi Taw

People celebrated the end of the three-month Buddhist Rain Retreat on the Thadingyut Full Moon Day, Sunday offering water, flowers and lights, taking meditation, making meritorious deeds at Pagodas and donating offertories to Members and of the Sangha, in Nay Pyi Taw.

Member, Security & Disciplinary Board (Uppatasanti Pagoda) Kyi Lwin said “Thidingyut full moon day celebration is held at Uppatasanti Pagoda with 7 programs. We also hold the successful conclusion of recitation ceremony here. We take Nine Precepts from Sanghas and donate offertories in the morning. We also offer “soon” or day meal and in the evening, 9000 lights offering festival is held.”

On the full moon day of Thadingyut (Abhidhamma Day), pagodas and monasteries in Nay Pyi Taw were crowded with people who took Precepts and made donation, and pilgrims.

Pilgrim, Khin San Htwe (Magway) said “I usually come here on the full moon day of Thadingyut. In my birth place, the lights are illuminated in the whole village and ward on the full moon day as well as the 1st and 2nd Wanning days of Thadingyut. The residents also offer rice and offertories to monks. I’m so satisfied to make meritorious deeds in Thagingyut. I’m very proud of being a Myanmar people.”

On the auspicious day, Buddhists took Precepts, recited Parittas and people paid respects to elders and made charity.

Pilgrim, Kyaw Zaw (Yangon) said “I am so satisfied to pay homage to Uppatasanti Pagoda, the prominent landmark in Nay Pyi Taw. I came to Nay Pyi Taw to pay respects to my elder brother. And then, I will pay a visit to Thatta Thattaha Maha Bodhi Pagoda and Bronze Buddha Image. I wish all Myanmar people have peaceful and prosperous life.”

Pilgrim, Kayaung village, Tat Kone Township, Aung San Win said “We came here to attend the donation ceremony of well-wishers from our village. Our pilgrimage group is about 150 people. And then, we will pay homage to pagodas in Nay Pyi Taw. The full moon of Thadingyut or Abidhama day is a holy day of our Myanmar people. As a Buddhist, I am very satisfied to see people making meritorious deeds and taking meditations on the significant day.” 

The night life on the full moon day was also filled with multi-colored lights alongside the streets and houses across the Nay Pyi Taw Council Area.
