Workers were busy building a soft-sided structure in Tornillo, Texas on Tuesday because Washington prepares to open a 2,500-bed capacity holding facility for single adult migrants close to the U.S.-Mexico border. The facility is located on the site of a former tent city for migrant teens which had closed in January, 2019.

According to a spokesman for Customs and Border Protection, the facility is set to open in late July of early August. The Trump administration unveiled a new rule on Monday to bar almost all immigrants from applying for asylum at the southern border, requiring them to first pursue safe haven in a third country through which they had travelled on the way to the United States.
