2nd coordination meeting: Myanmar-China Central Level Work Committee meeting held

The second coordination meeting of Myanmar-China Central Level work committee for joint-protection of wildfire disaster was held at the department of environmental conservation under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, Nay Pyi Taw in the morning on 19th February, 2024 with the attendance of Union Ministers U Khin Maung Yi, U Min Naung, Dr. Soe Win, deputy Minister for Home Affairs, security and border affairs minister of Kachin State and Shan State and members of work committee.

First, the Chairman of work committee Union Minister U Khin Maung Yi gave an opening remark that Myanmar was a member of ASEAN Agreement on Transboundary Haze Pollution in 2003 to mitigate the quantity of hotspots and Haze Pollution in ASEAN region and it’ implementing to reduce the haze pollution. With the bordering country of People’ Republic of China to promote the cooperation in wildfire disaster between the two countries, the 5 decisions made during the first meeting are being implemented. To form the joint-work committee for the prevention of wildfire, extinguish and  protect along the border of both countries and effective cooperation, all are urged to discuss the plans to be implemented.

Next, the vice-chairperson (1) Union Minister U Min Naung and Vice Chairperson (2) Union Minister Dr. Soe Win gave the remarks.

Next, the committee secretary clarified the completion of implementations on the first work committee meeting, the matters discussed online at work committee level for the protection of wildfire and extinguishing between the two countries and the attendees participated in the coordinated discussions on the implementations and plans to be carried out for the relevant sectors.

At the meeting, to form joint-work committee and designate the contact person for successfully implementation of wildfire extinguishing and rescue works along the border of Myanmar and China, collaboration for capacity building in fire fire disaster protection and technical training regarding with the prevention of fire disaster, increasing surveying and controlling the transboundary haze pollution and the points to be added to the responsibilities of the work committee were discussed and made decisions.
