Agricultural development: Coordination meeting on irrigation system held

A work coordination meeting on effective water irrigation as per crops was held at the Union Minister’s Office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation on Tuesday with the attendance of Deputy Minister U Bo Bo Kyaw and departmental officials.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Minister called for the concerted efforts of the departmental officials for the effective water utilization management to ensure sufficient water irrigation to the crop plantations due to limited water volume as the consequences of climate change. He also stressed to expand the formation of Water Users Associations (WUA) with the collaborative efforts of the farmers and growers. The meeting is held for to spread the necessary information within relevant departments effectively.

Then, the officials from relevant departments clarified the calculation of water requirements, works implementations on effective water irrigation, formation of WUA with the collaborative efforts of the farmers and growers, current human resource development and research activities and the compilation of handbooks on collective irrigative system guidances and formation of water users associations.

Likewise, the Deputy Minister heard reports on water requirements for paddy plantations, effective usage of rain water, growing of paddy strains which doesn’t need much water, water irrigation as per crops, reduction the wastage of agricultural water and difficulties encountered in practicing water saving techniques.

Then, the Deputy Minister fulfilled requirements upon reports and urged to implement the collaborative research progress of the relevant departments and farmers which can be applied on ground.
