Agricultural Development: Kachin State CM explains plans for double cropping

Kachin State Chief Minister U Khet Htien Nan, on December 2nd, visited Myitkyina University, and inspected the landscaping works by the Development Affairs Committee in front of the main building. They then arrived at Bala Min Htin 100-acre model plantation in Man Khein (Industrial Zone) Ward, and inspected the condition of monsoon paddy harvesting and land preparation for cultivating winter crops. He also provided 1 million kyats to the farmers to be used in pumping water for irrigation purpose.

On arrival at Ma Dein Village, the Chief Minister met with local farmers at 100- acre mechanized farm, and explained the plan to cultivate oil crops and Strip Cropping System to remedy the harming cause by El Nino weather condition. He also inspected the digging of four tubewells to be able to irrigate year-round cultivation, and the use of tractors, provided by the Agricultural Mechanization Department.

The Chief Minister and party later inspected monsoon paddy harvesting in Moat Lwe Village of Wai Maw Township, and provided 5.4 million kyats for fencing the paddy field area. He also coordinated the needs for upgrading the production road, timely supply of irrigation water and systematic use of irrigation water.

The Chief Minister later arrival at Pammati ward in Myitkyina and met with farmers to explain the plans to provide assistance for double cropping. He coordinated the needs of farmers, and inspected the breeding of dairy cows.
