The Printing and Publishing Department, under the Ministry of Information of the Government of the Republic of India, signed an Agreement for the SarsoBeikman Building Project on Monday.

The signing ceremony, held in Yangon, was witnessed by Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn, together with Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Vinay Kumar. Myanmar and India have shared bilateral diplomatic relations since 1948, spanning over 70 years. Throughout this period, the two countries have engaged in numerous bilateral cooperation projects and exchanges, including high-level visits.

The SarsoBeikman Building is implemented as a tribute to Myanmar's literary scholars who have shaped its rich literary heritage. The building will house historical literary materials, allowing everyone to study the history of Myanmar literature.

Exhibits will include palm-leaf inscriptions (Pe and Parabaik), handwritten scripts of renowned Myanmar writers, their photographs and biographies, rare books, literary prize medals, and photographs of printing presses that have been integral to Myanmar's printing history.

Moreover, the building will host various literary events such as conferences, seminars, award ceremonies, talk shows, writer-reader discussions, and book launches. A modern reference library will provide easy access to a collection of reference books for writers, while temporary lodgings will be available for literary scholars.

SarsoBeikman will actively support initiatives aimed at advancing the country's literature and serve as a platform for international and Myanmar writers to discuss copyright issues. With its comprehensive range of literary services and facilities, the SarsoBeikman Building will become a centralized hub where diverse literary endeavors can flourish.
