A Call for Donations: Restoring Bagan's ancient lakes

The Department of Archaeology and National Museum, under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, is currently undertaking the renovation of ancient lakes within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bagan, located in NyaungU Township of the Mandalay Region.

Donations are welcomed to support the excavation and restoration of 46 ancient lakes in a first phase and 45 lakes in the second phase, which are currently undergoing renovation in line with the suggestions by local and foreign experts as well as the norms for world heritage sites.

Donors are encouraged to contact the relevant officials from the Departments of Archaeology and National Museum in Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay, and Bagan to contribute.

Additionally, donations can be conveniently made online. The ancient Bagan cultural zone was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List on 6 July 2019, following the unanimous approval by all 21 member states of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.
