Displaced Palestinians tried to keep warm at a make-shift camp in southern Gaza town of Rafah. The UN estimates 1.9 million of Gaza's 2.4 million people have been displaced by the Israel-Hamas conflict, half of them children.

The conflict began after Hamas militants launched an unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7. Vowing to destroy Hamas and to bring the hostages home, Israel launched a withering offensive on Gaza, which is ruled by the militant group.

The death toll for Palestinians has climbed to more than 18,000 people, mostly women and children, in just over two months of fighting. On Tuesday, the United Nations demanded an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza after more than three-quarters of the 193-member General Assembly backed the move.
