Donation Ceremony: Efforts for development of libraries

For the development of libraries across Myanmar, a ceremony to donate cash, books and periodicals was held at the National Library in Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday.

The ceremony was attended by Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and high ranking officials as well as donors, officials and invited guests. The ceremony commenced with a video clip on Treasure Trove of Knowledge.

In his speech, the Prime Minister said there are 410 district and township libraries operated by the Information and Public Relations Department under the Ministry of Information across the country. Moreover, there are over 3,500 libraries operated by the assistance of Myanmar Libraries Foundation, regional organizations, individuals and communities.

There is still needed to open more libraries in the country while providing necessary infrastructures. He stressed the need to make cooperative efforts for shaping the community equipped with rich knowledge. This was followed by donating of cash, books and periodicals. After the ceremony the Prime Minister and party toured the National Library, observing the display of books and periodicals, e-Library and Reading Room. Over 985 million kyats and over 79,000 books and periodicals were donated by the Union Level organizations, union ministries, Battalions and Regiments of Defence Services (Army, Navy, Air), departments and donors across regions and states.
