Mon State Government observed the International Day of Persons with Disabilities falling on the 3rd of December.

In this ceremony at the Mawlamyine Education Degree College, Chief Minister U Aung Kyi Thein highlighted the theme of the 2023 International Day of Persons with Disabilities ‘United in action to rescue and achieve the SDGs for, with and by persons with disabilities.’

The Mon State Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has been cooperating with regional organizations. For people with disabilities to have equal rights without discrimination and to participate in every activity of the human society, it is the responsibility of every human being in the society to support and help, the Chief Minister added. International Day of Persons with Disabilities is an international observance promoted by the United Nations since 1992.

The observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
