False Narratives: Clarifying recent fake news

Misinformation has swept through social media platforms, alleging the involvement of Tatmadaw supporters in security operations in Kawthoung, Taninthayi Region.

The baseless claims suggest the hiring of individuals, payment with 30,000 kyats per day, and the provision of weapons. Both local sources and Tatmadaw representatives have refuted these allegations.

Furthermore, another baseless report emerged, attributing an attack on Zeya Thukha Monastery in Namtkham, Shan State, to the Tatmadaw. The fake news, purportedly spread by Khit Thit Media, alleges a bombardment on the monastery where over 200 displaced persons sought refuge.

Contrary to these claims, locals from the affected monastery have denied any such attack occurring on December 13th.
