Firefighters in China’s Sichuan Province battle with two raging forest fires

Firefighters in China’s Sichuan Province are battling two raging forest fires as of Sunday. In Yajiang County of Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Garze, a fire that happened Friday afternoon has spread towards multiple directions due to strong winds in the early hours of Sunday.

Yajiang’s fire zones are located on steep slopes, making it hard to the transport of firefighting equipment. The recent dry weather, combustible vegetation and strong winds all pose additional challenge to firefighters. Over 3,000 locals had been evacuated.

In Garze’s Kangding City, hundreds of rescuers are battling another forest fire, which broke out on Saturday. The 750 firefighters from the Yunnan Province is expected to reach the fire site in the early hours of Monday.
