Food Sufficiency: Sagaing Region Chief Minister attends the meeting

Sagaing Region Chief Minister U Myat Kyaw presided over a meeting on local food sufficiency at the Sagaing Region Agriculture Department on Saturday morning.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister highlighted the pivotal role of Sagaing Region in nation’s agriculture sector due to its regional dams and irrigation facilities such as river water pumping projects and underground water projects as well as rainfed lowlands plantations, contributing to cultivation of 9.7 million acres of variety crop plantations.

He added that the state government is making exerted efforts to increase the agriculture capacity and to make extended cultivation, achieving targeted yields. He also stressed to emphasize the development of socio-economic status of farmers who are the lifeblood of the agriculture sector. Then, the departmental officials presented reports on current work implementations on local food sufficiency and further work implementations.

Then, the Chief Minister and officials provided cotton and sunflower seeds, as well as fertilizers and pesticides to the local farmers. Next, the Chief Minister and party inspected the Home Garden plantations and coordinated requirements.
