IAF launched a firefighting effort with Mi-17 V5 helicopter

Southern Air Command of the Indian Air Force has launched a firefighting effort in the forest. Mi-17 V5 helicopter, equipped with Bambi Bucket deployed for the operation to get the forest fire under control.
Bambi Bucket is a specialised equipment used by the Mi-17 V5 helicopter which enables it to carry a large volume of water underslung so that the water can be effectively dispensed in the fire affected area.
The IAF has utilised this equipment in affected areas of Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Nagaland, Goa, Jammu and Kashmir, Carnicobar,etc in the recent past. On March 12, a devastating forest fire broke out in a reserve forest. The fire destroyed around 30 hectares of land and threatening the region’s biodiversity.
