On January 20th, acting on a tip-off regarding the illegal transportation of arms and ammunition, security forces conducted an inspection in Hopone Township, Shan State (South). At around 11:15 pm, they inspected a motorcade consisting of 2 Carters, 1 Honda Fit, and 2 four-wheelers, with individuals in PNLO uniforms on board, at San Phu Village.

A uniformed individual initiated gunfire, resulting in injuries among the security forces due to an exchange of fire. Since PNLO is an NCA-Signatory organization, the security forces approached the operation in a controlled manner, engaging in negotiations to uphold the NCA agreements. Despite the cessation of gunfire, individuals in PNLO uniforms fled on Sunday morning while negotiations were underway, setting their vehicles on fire.

The explosion caused by burning ammunition engulfed about 27 houses in the nearby village. Six fire engines from Hopone and Taunggyi rushed to the area, collaborating with security forces to extinguish the fire. In the course of the incident, damaged arms and ammunition, including 504 assorted small arms, 10 RPG launchers, six 107mm short-range missiles, and some ammunition, were found loaded on two damaged Carters.

The State Government is providing necessary rescue and relief measures to the fire victims. Meanwhile, security forces continue operations to ensure regional peace and stability.
