Inspection Trip: Fertilizer Plant and gas extraction operations

Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin, accompanied by Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister U Tin Maung Win, visited the No.5 Chemical Fertilizer Plant in Kangyidaunt on Monday. During the inspection, the officials reported on the manufacturing and distribution of fertilizers utilizing natural gas extracted from inland oil and gas fields as raw materials.

The Union Minister emphasized that the country currently only produces 7% of its fertilizer needs and discussed plans to increase production by boosting the extraction of natural gas. He urged the staff to strive for optimal machine capacity utilization, minimizing waste of natural gas.

Additionally, the Union Minister called for continuous training and study on handling modern equipment and manufacturing techniques. Chief Minister U Tin Maung Win pledged cooperative efforts with the ministry to meet the needs of fertilizer plants and support natural gas exploration.

In the afternoon, they visited the Phaya Kone area, where the 2D seismic measuring process is underway to enhance oil and natural gas extraction. The Union Minister stated that only 50% of the country's natural gas needs are currently met, with 20% allocated to the production sector, including MSME businesses.

Plans for the future involve fulfilling the increasing demand by implementing a yearly plan for the next five executive years. Highlighting the successful discovery in the Apyauk gas field meeting the 2024 target, the Union Minister stressed the importance of the ongoing process in the Phaya Kone area to achieve the 2025 target. He urged all staff members to strive for success in their work for the benefit of the nation.
