Iranian President Ebarahim Raisi welcomed Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel who arrived in Tehran on Sunday after participating in the UN's COP28 climate talks in Dubai. Iran and Cuba vowed to strengthen relations and stand together against sanctions imposed on them by the United States.

Seven memorandums of understanding and cooperation documents were signed in various sectors of science and technology, health, agriculture, energy and mining, communications and medicine. The last time a Cuban leader visited Iran was in 2001, when Fidel Castro travelled to Tehran.
