Lancang-Mekong Cooperation: Prime Minister joins fourth Meeting via videolink

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing on Monday afternoon joined the fourth Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Leaders’ Meeting via videolink.

The Prime Minister and the Chinese Premier Mr. Li Qiang co-chaired the meeting and gave speeches.  In this meeting, the leaders exchanged views on development of the Mekong-Lancang cooperation and future cooperation processes.

In his part, the Prime Minister stressed that the Mekong-Lancang cooperation has passed the basic level and reached a comprehensive development stage in the past 7 years. From 2017 to 2023, Myanmar has received 106 special fund projects worth 31.6 million US dollars, which are supporting the country's socio-economic development. Member countries should provide mutual assistance.

Plan for increasing integration between member states should also be speeded up. Priority should be given to human resource development for MSME and agricultural-based entrepreneurial businesses. The Prime Minister also expressed words of thanks to China for providing assistance to build the National Infectious Disease Prevention and Training Center in Nay Pyi Taw.

Also, he said that he appreciated Establishment of Mekong-Lancang Tourism Capitals, of Mekong-Lancang Air Travel Development and Partnership Establishment. The Prime Minister also recognized the importance of the regional coordination role played by the "Mekong-Lancang Security and Law Enforcement Cooperation Center".

All must work together to reduce climate change, the Prime Minister added. The meeting approved the Nay Pyi Taw Declaration, the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Action Plan (2023-2027) and the Mekong-Lancang Innovation Corridor Development Joint Plan. In the meeting, the Prime Minister also handed over the rotating co-chairmanship of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation to Thailand.
