More than 110 countries have signed up to a commitment to triple the world's renewable energy capacity by 2030, the COP28 climate talks UAE hosts said Saturday.

Sultan Al Jaber, COP28 President said "The COP 28 presidency is asking all parties to sign the global pledge to triple renewable energy capacity and double energy efficiency by 2030." We have received 117 signatories representing 117 countries. So 117 countries have endorsed that pledge.""But I do need more, and I am currently requesting all parties to come on board as soon as possible please. This can and will help transition the world away from unabated coal."

The renewables pledge was among several other energy-related announcements at COP28 on Saturday, including new measures and funding to combat methane emissions, agreements to cut coal use and the promotion of nuclear energy.
