At least 25 people have died in Somalia since flash floods began last month, prompting the Federal Government of Somalia to declare an emergency. The floods come following several years of relentless drought in the East African country which resulted in a widespread humanitarian crisis.

The ongoing floods have affected more than 706,100 people in Somalia. According to the U.N., South West and Jubaland states are the worst affected areas. Floods have also been felt over the border in Kenya, where the death toll has reached 15 with more than 26,000 families impacted, the Kenya Red Cross said on Monday.
