Religious and Culture: Preserving Kaba Aye Pagoda in Japan’s Kitakyūshū Island

A work coordination meeting on Kaba Aye Pagoda in Moji of Kitakyūshū Island in Japan was held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture in Nay Pyi Taw on Monday and it was attended by Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Tin Oo Lwin.

During the meeting, the Union Minister said that the Japanese veterans want to build a pagoda for the purpose of Myanmar-Japan friendship, the spread of Theravada Buddhism, and to have a war-free and peaceful world with dedication to fallen Japanese soliders in Myanmar as per the study of the history of the Moji Kaba Aye Pagoda. 

It was built on a plot of land near Mekari Park which was bought by Japanese veterans and donated by the residents of the city, and was named Moji Kaba Aye pagoda under the leadership of the mayor of Moji. And the foundation was laid in 1958 and the construction was completed on 9th March in that year.

On 17th July 2020, and it was recorded as “Religious Corporation World Peace Pagoda”, a cultural heritage of Japan in Fukuoka district. The Japanese Board of Trustees was formed by 27 members in 1990 for the long-term sustainability of the Moji Kaba Aye Pagoda and Myanmar Monastery, and it is currently working with 13 members after 2022.

Union Minister also said, it is necessary to have a board of trustees that includes the majority of local residents for the long-term sustainability of the Moji Kaba Aye Pagoda and the Myanmar Monastery. And officials reported future plans and matters on the spread of Theravada Buddhism.

Then, Union Minister fulfilled the requirements submitted by the officials, urged to serve together for sustainable conservation of the Moji Kaba Aye Pagoda and Myanmar Monastery, and regarding the spread of Buddhism.
