Road Safety: Progress of Underpass construction in Yangon Region

Construction of Underpass, connecting the Western Entrance of Shwedagon Pagoda on U Wizara Road and People’s Square is underway. The new facility was constructed for ensuring road safety for the public, and to emerge a modern landmark in the city.

On the 1st of March, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, accompanied by the Regional Ministers, visited the construction site and heard reports on progress of works.

The Chief Minister instructed to meet the set standard, avoiding the traffic congestion during the construction period. The Underpass will be 23 ft long facility, installed with 4 escalators and 2 elevators, and can provide service for 14,000 commuters per hour. The project is expected to last for 14 months.
