Myanmar Bamboo Society is organizing the basic training on the use of bamboo at Zeyathiri Township in Nay Pyi Taw.

The training aims to use bamboos as a timber substitute material, to increase extraction of good quality bamboos and to cut systematically bamboos for conserving forests.

Now, due to the depletion of forest, bamboos are deeded to grow as a timber substitute plant. Myanmar Bamboo Society is helping to produce good quality bamboos while managing naturally grown bamboo forests and also motivating for the establishment of bamboo plantations in commercial and manageable scales. The Society is also conducting training on making bamboo structures and furniture.

President, Myanmar Bamboo Society, Kyaw Win  said “The training focuses on basic training on making bamboo structures. We will conduct how to cut systematically bamboos for conserving bamboo forests, treatment method to prevent bamboos from being worm-eaten and mould. We will train making charcoal from the waste bamboos and how to use vinegar produced from making charcoals. The basis of making bamboo structures and furniture as well as design thinking for bamboo structures will be conducted.”

Participants said the training is beneficial to them as they know systematic cutting of bamboos and the basis of bamboo structure making.

Ayeyawady Region, Win Hlaing Htun said “We study ways on conservation of natural forests, making process of bamboo products such as bamboo charcoals, vinegars, bamboo furniture and structures. In our region, people don’t know how to cut bamboos systematically. Through the training, we can know the ways on bamboo cutting and systematic cutting designs.”

Mandalay Region, Aik Tun said “I have read the Book of Saya U Kyaw Win on the nature of Bamboos and commercially Bamboo planting. And then, I grew 1-acre of bamboo plantation for extracting bamboo shoots. Now, due to the depletion of forests, bamboos need to be used as a timber substitute material. If we plant bamboos systematically, we can produce bamboo shoots commercially and also make furniture and buildings with bamboos.”

Bamboo is the best solution for contenting the global warming in many ways. Bamboo absorbs carbon dioxide and releases oxygen into the atmosphere 3 to 4 times higher than many other trees. They can absorb more dust and can prevent soil erosion.

The training will be conducted to those who are interested in bamboo planting and bamboo growers from 5th to 15th January in Nay Pyi Taw.
