In the first two months of 2024, Viet Nam surpassed Thailand to become China's top durian exporter, shipping 32,750 tons. According to Viet Nam Customs, this accounted for 57% of China’s durian imports, a significant increase from last year’s 32%. Conversely, Thailand’s exports fell by half to 19,000 tons.

Due to high demand from China, farmers have been raising durian prices in recent months. In March, the prices for the high-quality Monthong variety in the Mekong Delta increased by 15% from the previous year. Viet Nam’s durian exports are projected to exceed $3.5 billion this year, up 66% from last year.
