Vision for Agricultural Prosperity: Prime Minister's Message on Peasants’ Day

Chairman of the State Administration Council, Prime Minister Senior General Thadoe Maha Thayay Sithu Thadoe Thiri Thudhamma Min Aung Hlaing, sent a message on the occasion of Peasants’ Day on Saturday.

The Prime Minister extended greetings to all peasants, wishing for the success of agriculture and livestock breeding works, achieving socio-economic development.

He continued that the State Administration Council is implementing for prosperity of the state and food sufficiency, development of economic sector and promoting exports by laying down short and long term plans.

He stressed the need to make extended cultivation for the major crops including paddy, oil crops, industrial crops, coffee, beans and pulses and maize, with achieving targeted yields.

At the same time, provisions have been made for transformation into mechanized farming system by assisting farm implements and land reclamation as well as the agricultural inputs and technologies.

For livestock breeding, assistance are being provided for pedigree species, vaccination, and establishing breeding zones as well as techniques for producing quality dairy products.

In order to turn out the experts for promoting livestock breeding sector, an Institute for Veterinary Science is scheduled to open in Insein in May this year.

Moreover, the loan disbursements have been made for agriculture and livestock sector under the Emerald Green Project, and it could contribute to earn foreign currency by exporting the 10% produces after distributing the 90% of the produces for local consumption. He pointed out that 70% of the country’s population are residing in rural areas.

If the rural residents, peasants, achieved success in agriculture and livestock breeding works, people from entire country will be improved in their socio-economic status. He called for cooperative efforts of all involved persons for economic development of the country through the sufficiency of local consumption while exporting the surplus.
