Work coordination meeting: MoIP UM gave an address at the meeting

Chairman of the Central Census Commission Union Minister for Immigration and Population U Myint Kyaing attended a work coordination meeting on 2024 Nationwide Population and Housing Census at Zabuthiri Hall in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory on Tuesday.

Also present at the meeting were Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman U Than Tun Oo, members of the commission and other concerned officials.  Speaking at the meeting, the Union Minister highlighted the importance of census enumeration.

He said that 2024 Population and Household Census are being conducted to obtain reliable basic statistics for the country's social, economic, and administrative activities, to confirm accuracy of the population data for 2024, to estimate the voter lists and to gain assistance in the formulation of the nation's population policy . He added that analysis can be made in comparison the current data with previous census data through census enumeration.

The Union Minister stressed that 2024 census enumeration has been implementing as mandatory tasks to establish necessary policies and projects through comparison and research on the population and socio-economic changes of Myanmar between 2014 and 2024. In conducting pilot census enumeration, census will be enumerated with de facto method and Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) System by using mobile tablet.

Enumeration will be conducted nationwide for 15 days from 1st to 15th October. The reference date was set as midnight on 30th September 2024 and 68 questionnaires for the households and 18 questions for organizations will be enumerated.

After that, Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman reported on the 2024 nationwide census enumeration tasks in Nay Pyi Taw, committees’ formation at various level, the preparatory work and future work plans.

Next, the official of the Department of Population made a brief presentation on the role of the population, the information that can be collected through census enumeration, the importance of the population change process, and the findings from the census data.

After that, Union Minister provided the census facilities and cordially greeted to the attendees together with Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman and other concerned officials.
