Major US chipmaker Nvidia on Monday unveiled a new semiconductor to power artificial intelligence and improve its performance at the company's developer conference held in San Jose, California. The new chip is a type of graphic processing unit, or GPU, which is designed for parallel processing.

Jensen Huang, Nvidia CEO said "Hopper is fantastic. But we need bigger GPUs. And so ladies and gentlemen, I would like to introduce you to a very, very big GPU."

Compared to conventional products, Nvidia said the new GPU is up to 30 times speedier at producing answers to queries, and 25 times more energy efficient.

Jensen Huang, Nvidia CEO said "We're creating Earth 2, a digital twin of the earth for predicting weather. And we've made an extraordinary invention called CorrDiff: The ability to use generative AI to predict weather at extremely high resolution."

The chip is expected to become available in the second half of this year. Leading tech giants, including Amazon, Google and Microsoft, are expected to use it.
