King Charles urges 'genuine' climate action at COP28

Britain's King Charles III told world leaders that the UN's COP28 talks in Dubai must be a turning point in the fight against climate change, as tough negotiations on fossil fuels began. The climate champion-king spoke about the need for urgent action to mitigate the climate emergency, saying "the dangers are no longer distant risks.

King Charles III, British Monarch said "The dangers are no longer distant risks. I have seen across the Commonwealth, and beyond, countless communities which are unable to withstand repeated shocks, whose lives and livelihoods are laid waste by climate change. Surely real action is required to stem the growing toll of its most vulnerable victims."

Charles pointed to repeated cyclones seen in island nations, wildfires across Europe and unprecedented floods in Asia as some of many clear signs of ongoing climate change. The COP28 conference opened on Thursday with an early victory, the launch of a "loss and damage" fund for vulnerable countries devastated by natural disasters.
